Senior High Youth
Serving Baltimore June 2 - June 12, 2002
From June 2, through June 9, 2002, eight Senior High School youth and three adult
chaperones from Grace served the residence of an inner city neighborhood in Baltimore,
Maryland. They cleaned and repaired houses during the day and assisted with a Vacation
Bible School program in the evening.
They concluded their trip by visiting New York City before returning home on June 12. While
there, they attended a Yankees game and visited the Empire State Building and Ground Zero.

Two weeks ago in the old, decaying neighborhood of Highlandtown in Baltimore, MD, God used
another servant event to change more lives in some mysterious ways: It doesn’t make sense
that 8 teenagers would pay to go cross country to work during their summer vacation; it’s
foolish to this world to spend break time prayer-walking through the city streets lifting up
those who do not know their Savior; it is absurd to think that a houseful of garbage
would stir a young man to examine what he values; and it is totally illogical that
through a bunch of inner city children, who live surrounded by the greed
& anger of crime & poverty, God would break down walls of
prejudice and restore a spirit of community and common joy in the hearts
of a handful of suburban youth.

Some people go their entire lives not making any change, and some change many, but
that week when we were away, the Lord God changed me for the better, and through Him,
I pray that I can change many, as some never get the chance to do so.

Before this trip, I had a hard time reading the Bible, I just didn’t get into
it. But soon enough I found my self reading different Psalms with Jessica and taking
notes on them. For the first time in my life I was reading the Bible on my own.

I understand now that being a Christian is all about serving. Every time I serve someone
I am showing them God’s love through my actions. And I also learned that even though I can’t
change the ways of the entire world, I can do my little part to change the lives of those
around me.
