Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” Mark 10:14

Pre-Kindergarten is often the first time little children come together as a group. Here at Grace Lutheran School, we come together with Jesus as the center of our work and play. His Word guides us throughout the day.

Welcome to the 2005-2006 School Year

Welcome to our Pre-K-4 Class!

Our Language Arts curriculum is based on Scott Foresman’s READING STREET, a literacy program plus a “ hands –on” phonics approach.  We will concentrate on the “letter of the week”, beginning with the short vowel sounds followed by the consonants.  We will include the long vowel sounds and rhyming words.  Your child is encouraged to bring in objects, pictures, and books with these beginning sounds.  Your child will also learn how to sound out consonant-vowel combinations as we develop  reading readiness.

Our Math curriculum is based on HOW TO COUNT AND WRITE, published by ACIS.  Our program is designed to help children explore a wide variety of math concepts.  They will be making discoveries using “hands-on” manipulatives, such as shapes, connecting cubes, tiles, dominoes, flash cards, and pattern blocks.

In our supplemental curriculum, the children will learn about our relationship to God, and the world around us through Bible stories, songs, and activities.  This will be based on a weekly Bible verse from the VOYAGER curriculum published by Concordia and WEEKLY READER.

Other “hands-on” accomplishments will include learning how to tie shoes, button, zip, snap, and cut with scissors.  We will begin the year with each child learning his/her full name, birthday, telephone number, and address.
